Why the hell didn't this damned ad run?

Rejected poster, 1999. Client: Schoolbond Theater Lier. Agency: Kat Design. Art Director: Toon Van de Putte. Writer: Veerle Pannemans. Cause of death: "Schoolbond Lier wanted to put up a production of Jesus Christ Superstar, aimed at young people (teenagers). They used fairly young actors and adapted the music arrangement, lighting, costumes, decor, etc. to their target audience. I designed this poster with that in mind. They loved the design, but unfortunately, it had to be approved by Two Knights Rights Ltd., who handle the rights for Jesus Christ Superstar. They found this design 'too controversial', and said it didn't fit in with the spirit of the musical. The final design that made it was something involving a sunset and a dreamy Jesus portrait..."
