Patrick, you should try the cache tool again at http://recovery.ma.gnolia.com. There were two rounds of cache retrieval, and the second produced about 4x more bookmarks than the first.

I don't know what percentage of my links I got back. Maybe 10%, maybe 100%. There are a lot of links on this page, but I also used Ma.gnolia quite a bit for nearly three years. I used the Ma.gnolia Bookmark Recovery web interface to dig up what you see here. The first couple of dozen links were spam. I deleted them and did a few quick global search and replace missions to replace the most egregious text gremlins. Good luck!

I’m curious as to how you got so many of your Ma.gnolia bookmarks back. So far I’ve only managed to get about 150 out of 1,000+ from FriendFeed and Google’s cache of my RSS feed. I’m hoping I can get more of them recovered. Years of bookmarking down the drain due to no data backup…

The older links are neat to see. It’s easy to get caught up in the latest and greatest only. I especially liked the link to the Toronto Subways. Brought back some old memories, and familiar sites and sounds.

This experience might also start ‘encouraging’ other websites to allow their users to download offline copies of data they post to the site. I know GMail just came out with a feature like this. I suspect in the future more websites will start doing the same after this embarrassment.

Wow, that’s a substantial list Jeffrey, it’ll take me awhile just to look through all of it!

Yeah, some of my (web design only) links, 100+ resources from my site – were kept there and now I’m feverishly trying to get them on to delicious instead.

Shame Ma.gnolia was hit with troubles, I liked their site.

It's good to be reminded that the beautiful site design is not as important as the functionality and reliability of the server-side codebase (see: Craigslist). Gives code junkies like myself a noteworthy amount of pride.
