I work for a large (non-US) service provider and the most we'll ever ask for is proof of residence at the new adress. If your credit card company has changed your adress, we won't even make you send in any paperwork to prove you've moved.

The only reason for jumping through that one hoop is so that we can lower your termination-fee. (It's hardly the customers fault if our services aren't available at the new adress)

How on earth do they handle customers who wish to break a contract because the service doesn't work?

Strange because Speakeasy usually has such fantastic customer service. I've always had nothing but great experiences with them.

Will they accept a letter or facsimile on Happy Cog letterhead (surely you have some old ones with the old address and phone number imprinted)? If you don't have any physical letterhead (paperless office, ha!) you could still fake one easy enough.

I have been a lurker of yours for many years. I come here (and follow on twitter) for advice, trends, all sorts of things web related. What strikes me most though is the ability for life, things completely unrelated to the web/standards/design, to affect your world with its insanity as much as it does us lurkers. It is oddly comforting.

I am brought to comment because I feel in your one short, simple paragraph both utter exasperation at a situation out of your control and a small amount of comfort that yes, even us, your humble lurkers have days like these.

Unfortunately, all I can offer you is a Happy Canada Day!

I guess it’s time to just stop paying. One assumes the final demands and bailiffs will be sent to the old address too.
