Yuck. I’m flying back to NYC on Sunday. You just made me wish I was staying a little longer in Edinburgh. Temperature over here is a little lower than 9, but at least it’s in Celcius ->
A Canadian and ex-New Yorker pipes up with the requisite, “you think that’s cold, sonny?” Just check out the weather we’re having up in Montréal, which itself is laughably warm compared with, say, Iqaluit. But I understand, everything is relative.
Wow!!!
Yeah… you guys are cold!!! We have an uncanny weather here in MinneSNOWta… ranging from 25 to 32 F in different areas of the Twin Cities.
We’re here, just waiting for An Event Apart… =)
[...] I just noticed Zeldman.com posted a similar shot. Well, Mr. Zeldman, NYC at 9 degrees may be cold, but how about -5 ? Ok, they’re both darn cold. [...]
Here in Montréal it’s cold too.
It’s about time.
I haven’t even pulled my sweaters out from the top of my closet yet this year, waiting not so patiently for real winter here in NJ.
However, this forecast of high teens is just invigorating. Where’s the usual couple days of single digits? Where’s the snow? The only exercise I get is shoveling snow a couple times a year. I’m going flabby.
My widget said 1 last week.
All single digits should be banned.
Yeah I can feel your pain. But that is coming from an Australian, so I don’t think it can count for much.
[...] I bet you even ride a gold-plated standards-compliant limo to work! [...]
here in Portsmouth NH it’s 1° F, but feels like -18 with the wind chill
http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/fitness/local/03801?from=recentsearch
it’s 5° F (-15° C) here in Trondheim, Norway right now
I have to agree with Jeff L. On my drive from Milford, NH to Marlborough, MA this morning, my car thermometer dipped down to -1°F
Thank goodness for the recent usage of heated seats in automobiles! ;-)
9° fahrenheit? -12/-13 celsius?
It’s very cold for a person of Rome
[...] Hee. Jeffrey Zeldman posts the temps for NY. It’s cold! [...]
[...] Zeldman started it. [...]
that is one of the most beautiful blog posts i’ve ever seen.
sorry it’s so cold up there.
Ah, this is what I miss about Ireland; spending a short winter there last year, friends in Sacramento asked, “Won’t it be too cold?” Nah. We compared Co. Kerry to Sacramento nearly every day, and Kerry had less rain and warmer temps. Meaning, sometimes it dropped to 40°F at night, but some nights it hovered around 50°F.
Then, late February, we came home to Sacramento, and it was below freezing. No, it’s not single digits, but this is California, fer cryin’ out loud.
Besides, aren’t New Yorkers supposed to be a tough, hard-bitten sort, who scoff at the weather? Oh; I get it – you are scoffing at it. And here we all were thinking you were complaining . . .
As someone mentioned, it’s all relative. I went skiing last week at Breckenridge with my son, and it was -11F in the parking lot. Up on the mountain, ski patrol was estimating it was -50F in spots due to the wind chill. I loved it, since it kept most people inside.
On the flip side, it was in the 50′s here in Denver yesterday, but we are supposed to get more snow this weekend, and probably middle of next week. I still have over a foot in my backyard! But hey, that’s one reason I like living here.
-2° F right now in Burlington, VT right now. Chilly.
I’m with Brad. Where I come from (Edmonton), we’d post that graphic with the caption “Warm” (in January).
It’s about time!
[...] Zeldman thinks it’s cold in New York. That’s funny. I temporarily switched my Widget from Celcius for easier comparison: [...]
I may not be in Iqaluit, but it’s looking pretty warm in NYC to me…
Yay! Everything is returning to normal. I was tired of the Northeast whining about how warm and snowless it was while Seattle was getting sub-freezing weather and snow.
But it’s mid-40s and cloudy today. The way it’s supposed to be.
Damn cold. Staying in with no real excuse not to work. Nice photo at top of site…
Whiner (With all due respect)
Check out our weather here in Rexburg, Idaho
And we’re happy to be in the double digits! Two weeks ago we were lucky to get above zero.
Rob’s beard froze today.
My mother had family in Montreal; during my childhood, we visited them every winter. Why in winter, I now wonder. Why not in lovely Montreal spring? Montreal beats NYC for cold for sure. Glad to hear it’s warmer in the Twin Cities. (Although not so glad, Al-Gore-wise.)
Yet another whiner from Fairbanks, Alaska –
The coldest we’ve gotten so far this winter is -35 or so. That’s unusual; we’re still waiting for -50 to hit. This week we’ve been steady at about -10 to -20, and today is a *balmy* fifteen above. Heatwave!!
Ah, 40 degrees… that’s shorts & tshirt weather up here. At least on the spring side of the year, when it’s the upswing of temperature. After living life at thirty or fifty below, 40 degrees is paradise.
Follow up: We made it to 40!!!!.
Not-so-Sno!
While global warming still bothers me a lot and the screenshot above is proof, I like the idea of not shoveling often.
[...] Zeldman brought up the cold temperatures they are experiencing in New York (9° F). [...]
I walked to work this morning and almost died. And there’s no end in sight…
Jeff(rey),
Sounds balmy. Oh wait you are still using Farenheit (just kidding). It is cold all up the North East with a “Weather Bomb” to pummel from Boston to Southern New Brunswick, Canada.
Bundle up. If you are going to Web Directions North you can warm up (although BC has been having all sorts of wind and cold too).
Take care,
Jay
We woke up to a balmy -5 celsius (23 f) this morning. It’s been down in the minus double digits [celsius] for the past two weeks.

Greetings from Florida where it is a gorgeous 68 degrees.
Jeffrey, your little one is nearing Disney age — why not bring the family south for a few days during the winter?
It’s cold here, too.

Your forecast is missing that funny little line in front of the temperatures that mine has … all I can say is, I’m not looking forward to this weekend if that’s how cold it’s getting (-13° F, and I’m only in northeast Iowa, granted, so far north it’s almost Minnesota, but still).
Colder
Ha. That is cold. You should come to Edmonton, Canada. THat is a nice day, even in spring.
Its a lot colder a little up north in Toronto, where I’m at :)
Boy, that is cold. But I think I might, sadly, win. I realized today that San Diego is 100 degrees warmer than here!
Rather crispy.
Though, better than 92F +90%rh, IMO
Try -10 at 8 in the morning here in Michigan last week. A nice little 15″ blizzard added to that as well.
