Settling in to the vacation. Found some unfettered bandwidth floating about; used it to upload these shots from the island.

Beautiful place.
I knew you were not going to resist to send us this stuff right away! And to check your inbox in the process.
Thanks for the awesome photos. Where is this place? OK, you can answer that later. I guess you want to keep a low profile. =)
You couldn’t stay away afterall! I was rooting for you to suceed!
It looks alot like “Fire Island”, off the coast of Long Island, in New York.
Couldn’t stay away, could you? Ha!
Definitely looks like Fire Island, which, in my opinion, is the greatest place on earth. Greatest. Place. On. Earth. Amazing how much things change when you replace streets with paths.
Excellent shots, Mr Zeldman! Glad to see you’re enjoying yourself on your vacation - you certainly deserve it a million times over.
Fair Harbor, Fire Island, New York, USA.
Goes to show “you can remove the boy from the city but you can’t remove the city from the boy”.
Fire Island? I am sure it is a great place, but being a midwesterner I am not familar with it. I guess I just thought that you would be on some isolated island somewhere in the middle of nowhere. You aren’t in the “middle of nowhere”, are you?
Woah, I’m commenting on Jeffrey Zeldman’s blog. This feels weird.
Awesome dog picture.
Hold on! Did I miss something (often the case)? Which island was this? I’m guessing we aren’t supposed to know?
That deer looked like it could use a holiday.
I went this year to Italy, small village called middle of nowhere no internet connection, no emails, no websites, no CSS no PHP no webstandars no nothing. Well it took me 3 days to figure out drinking italian red wine that i can still try to connect and check my emails via my cell phone. SO WAS UNPLUGGED FOR 3 DAYS… After i got back i opened the netvibes and noticed that mister Zeldman is about to have vacation without internet connection lol , so i forward his post to all people in our studio and start betting. Thank you i won the bet=)
Looks like where they filmed Weekend at Bernie’s.
it’s nice to see somebody gets a break …
much of an inspiration, jeff
all these years :)

[commenting on the vacation] Well done, Maestro! Now you’ll come back refreshed and create some more magic…
[commenting on David's midwestern unfamiliarity with Fire Island] Yup, an island in the middle of nowhere would be perfect, but Fire Island is a fabulous second!
Good on yer, cobber
Is this wonderland :)
Really nice photos, looks like you’re having a great time whilst the rest of us wrestle with IE7 and all of its impending doom!
I thought it was the Cape (as in Cape Cod off Massachusetts) at first glance. Man, I wish I was on vacation, but I say that every week :-)
Due to not being a U.S. resident (and thus being slightly ignorant of many places of local interest) and having recently read the chapter “Blood Work” from Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris, I can’t help but smirk at the very mention of “FIRE ISLAND”…
Just remember to make it back for AEA Seattle! Enjoy yourself on that sliver of land. Make it to the PNW in one piece.
Hi, I am readling your book, Designing With Web Standard, I check this website in validator.w3.org as you said in the book, seem the tag A is not so good, would you change it? Or you think that is ok? Just curious…
Enjoyed browsing through the site. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Poland

beatiful place !
You make some really dead-on observations about the current state of standards in the programming world. I think one of the more interesting things you say has to do with the tendency of programmers to worry too much about how a browser will react and ignoring the quality of content. Will the day every arrive when browsers are standardized? Would that make it a lot easier to standardize applications? I recognize that everyone has a proprietary interest in his own browser specs right now, but it reminds me of those early days of the railroad when every company used a different sized track and none actually matched up. Rather than running about the country trying to create patches that would allow a train to move from one size to another, the better decision was made: standardize the tracks. I’m not sure who, but someone should step up and force browsers to comply with certain specifications.
Clean and picture-perfect photos! Breathtaking scenes, objects, and places! Combine all of those and you will excellent photos like the ones you have. So, would you be so kind to share with us your secret and tell us where this beautiful place is?
